The Kona Experience

Join TriDot's crew, featuring triathlon legend Kurt Madden, as they discuss the Kona experience. This "don't miss" feature elaborates on all elements of the World Championship event—from the mental and physical preparation pre-race to the finish line on Alii Drive.  Course details are given in such vivid description, you'll feel like you're in Hawaii!

Coach Madden was raised in San Diego, CA. He was introduced to the sport of triathlon in the late 1970's through his participation in Swim-Run-Swim events. Madden raced in triathlons throughout the world from 1980 - 1985. From 1985 to the early 2000s, Kurt focused on his responsibilities as a father while staying active in various running events, including 48 hour runs! Returning to triathlons in the 2000s, Madden remained a top competitor. In 2016, Kurt completed the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, 9th overall, and as the first American. He has since returned to Kona in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Find Kurt's full bio here.
